To get an accurate blood pressure reading you need to have a blood pressure cuff that is the correct width. The width is determined by the circumference of the clients extremity. I am using the word extremity because sometimes it is not possible to get a blood pressure from your upper arm, so it would then be gotten from your leg.

The bladder is the inside piece that fills with air. If the bladder is too narrow you will get a false elevated reading. If the bladder is too wide you will get a false low reading.

The length is the minimum length of the entire device that should be used to get an accurate blood pressure.

Not all doctors treat high blood pressure the same. Some treat high blood pressure more aggresively than others. If you think there is something wrong with your blood pressure, then please go see your doctor. Our blood pressure charts and information is here for you to use as a guide to help you understand blood pressure.
